This recent body of work is a reaction to the dawning of a new era with the rise of fascism worldwide. The intent is to draw attention toward subtle imagery in order to raise awareness and point out red flags. By deconstructing familiar images, the viewer is advised to look closer in order to understand the smaller pieces (seemingly isolated occurrences) as part of a larger (systemic) picture.

I want to reflect on the precarious moment we live in as we continue to divorce ourselves from the earth that houses us.
The meltdown of glaciers, stock markets and democracy. Needless deaths attributed to weapon sales and short sighted regime changes.
Wealth consolidation, just 3 individuals (Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett) now have more wealth than the bottom half of 160 million Americans combined!
Our support for the Amazons and Walmarts of the world ensure a transfer of local wealth up and outwards, into the hands of people that don’t need it. Corporations such as these crush local businesses, monopolize markets and standardize a “race to the bottom” economy. They conceal the true cost of our consumption. Slave labor, environmental pillage, animal farming, and corruption are what allow for consumers in America to have endless choice. There is not enough earth or resources to sustain the standard of material consumption corporations fool us to maintain. We need to hold ourselves accountable for how and where we choose to spend our money.

*Over 2,000 children still remain caged at the U.S.-Mexico border. These children will grow up not with their parents who fled thousands of miles to save their lives but, within the foster care system. The U.S. is unnecessarily orphaning children. The cruel finish line for asylum seekers forced to beg at these walls, a tangible reminder of failed U.S. foreign policy. This administration is a uniquely cruel one. It is one that profiteers off of the exploitation and misery of others.

Student protests kept this particular shooting relevant in the public eye long enough to revisit gun control legislation but, alas the Trump administration (sponsored by the NRA) did nothing beyond proposing the arming of school teachers.

Trump foreshadows the building of The Wall after accusing illegal immigrants of being behind the “loss of many innocent lives.” Claiming MS-13 gang members “took advantage of glaring loopholes in our laws to enter the country as unaccompanied alien minors and then ended up murdering American citizens.” He failed to mention that MS-13 was a gang born in Los Angeles, California, the inception of which was a consequence of failed U.S. foreign policy towards El Salvador in the 1980s. During this time the United States simultaneously backed and propped up military dictatorships and death squads throughout Central America who terrorized the local population. The civil wars born of these policies forced the migration of tens of thousands of innocent civilians fleeing violence towards the U.S. border.
